Maachah
     A son of Nahor (Abraham's brother) by his concubine Reumah. (22:24)

Machir
     The son of Manasseh. He had children of his own. (50:23)

Machpelah
     A field located east of the area of Mamre. (23:17) It was bought by Abraham from Ephron the Hittite as a burial place for himself and his family. (23:7-17) Various family members were buried in a cave on the field. The cave was the burial place for Sarah (23:19), Abraham (25:9), Isaac, Rebekah, Leah (all 49:31), and Jacob (50:13).

Madia
     A son of Japeth. (10:2)

Magdiel
     A chief of Edom. (36:43)

Magog
     A son of Japeth. (10:2)

Mahalaleel (also called Mahalel)
     A son of Cainan (also called Kenan, not to be confused with Canaan, the son of Ham). (5:12-13) He lived 895 years. At age 65, he had a son named Jared. Then he had other sons and daughters. (5:15-17)

Mahalath
     One of Esau's wives. She was a Canaanite woman who was the daughter of Ishmael. Esau married her after he had been tricked out of his father's blessing. When he saw that his parents didn't like Canaanite women, he deliberately married another Canaanite woman to spite them. So he married Mahalath. (28:6-9)

Mahanaim
     A place between Mesopotamia and Canaan. When Jacob was on his way home to canaan after visiting Laban in Mesopotamia, he saw a group of angels. He named the place Mahanaim. (32:1-2)

Malchiel
     A son of Beriah. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,17)

Mamre - There are two:
     1. One of three Amorite chiefs who helped Abram's army defeat Chedorlaomer and rescue Lot. (The other two were Mamre's brothers, Aner and Eshcol.) After their victory, Abraham refused to take any of the spoil, but let the three chiefs have their share. (chapter 14) The plain of Mamre is named after him. (15:13,24)
     2. A plain near the city of Hebron in the land of Canaan. (13:18; 23:19; 35:27) It was named after Mamre the Amorite. (15:13) It was located near the city of Hebron. (13:18; 23:19; 35:27)
     Abram built an altar to God there. (13:18) It was in Mamre where Abram learned of Lot's capture. (14:13) Jacob and his family, including Isaac, passed through Mamre on the way to Hebron. (35:27)
     Mamre is west of Machpelah, a field that Abraham bought as a burial place for him and his family. (23:17)

Manahath
     A child of Shobal. (36:23)

Manasseh
     The oldest son of Joseph and Asenath. (41:50-52) Before Jacob died, he was introduced to Joseph's two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. When Jacob blessed them, he deliberately gave preference to the younger son, Ephraim. Joseph didn't like this. He asked Jacob to give preference to Manasseh because Manasseh was the older son. But Jacob refused. He said "Manasseh will become great, but Ephraim will become greater than he." (chapter 48)
     Manasseh had a son named Machir. (50:23)

Mash
     A child of Aram. (10:23)

Masrekah
     The city that Samlah (a king of Edom) came from. (36:36)

Massa
     A son of Ishmael. (25:14)

Matred
     The daughter of Mezahab, and the mother of Mehetabel. (36:39)

Medan
     A child of Abraham by his second wife, Keturah. (25:2)

Mehetabel
     The daughter of Matred, and the wife of Hadar. (36:39)

Mehujael
     The son of Irad, and father of Methushael (also called Methusael). (4:18)

Melchizedek
     The king of the city of Salem. After Abram defeated Chedorlaomer's army, Melchizedek gave Abram gift of bread and wine. (14:18-20)

Merari
     A son of Levi. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,11)

Mesha
     A place that marks the boundary of the territory of Joktan's sons. (10:30)

Meshech
     A son of Japeth. (10:2)

Mesopotamia
     The land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. (By today's map, the area of Mesopotamia would be in southern Turkey, northeastern Syria, and central Iraq.)
     The land of Shinar, a.k.a. Chaldea, a.k.a. Babylon, was located in Mesopotamia. And the area of Padan (also called Padanaram), which contains the city of Haran, was also in Mesopotamia.

Methuselah
     A son of Enoch. (5:21-2) He lived 969 years, longer than any other character in the Bible (unless you count God). (5:27) At age 187, he had a son named Lamech. Then he had other sons and daughters. (5:25-26)

Methusael (also called Methushael)
     The son of Mehujael, and the father of Lamech. (4:18)

Mezahab
     The parent of Matred. (36:39)

Mibsam
     A son of Ishmael. (25:13)

Mibzar
     A chief of Edom. (36:42)

Midian - There are two:
     1. A child of Abraham by his second wife, Keturah. (25:2)
     2. A country. (36:35)

Midianites
     A tribe that passes by as Joseph is being sold by his brothers to the Ishmaelites. (37:28)

Milcah
     The daughter of Haran, and sister of Iscah and Lot. She married Nahor (Abraham's brother). (11:29) She bore him eight children: Huz, Buz, Kemuel, Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel. (22:20-23)

Mishma
     A son of Ishmael. (25:14)

Mizpah
     The place in the mountainous area of Gilead where Jacob and Laban set up a heap of stones to mark their covenant. (31:46-49)

Moab (The name comes from two Hebrew words: "me", which means "from" in English, and "av", which means "father" in English". The name means "from father".) - There are two:
     1. The son of the incest between Lot and his oldest daughter.
     After Lot and his two daughters escaped from the destruction of Sodom, the daughters were afraid that the three of them were the last remaining people on earth. They wanted to keep the human race from ending. So they got Lot drunk, and then they both had sex with him. The older daughter conceived, and bore Lot's son/grandson. His name was Moab. Moab's descendants became a tribe called Moabites. (19:30-38)
     2. A field. (36:35)

Moabites
     A tribe who are descendants of Moab, the son of the incest between Lot and his oldest daughter. (19:37)

Moreh
     A plain located near the town of Shechem in the land of Canaan. It was Abram's first stop in Canaan during his journey from Haran. Here he saw God, and built an altar to him. (12:6-7)

Moriah
     A land that was designated to be the place where Abraham would sacrifice his son Isaac. (22:2)

Muppim
     A son of Benjamin. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,21)
