Hadad (also called Hadar) - There are three:
     1. The fourth king of Edom before Israel took over. His father was Bedad. (36:35)
     2. The eighth king of Edom before Israel took over. His father was Mehetabel. (36:39)
     3. A son of Ishmael. (25:15)

Hadoram
     A son of Joktan. (10:27)

Hagar
     Sarai/Sarah's Egyptian slave girl. Sarai couldn't conceive, so she gave Hagar to Abram to bear his children. She gave birth to Abram's first son, Ishmael. (chapter 16) Later Sarai managed to conceive and bear a son of her own, Isaac. (21:3) After Isaac was born, Sarai had Abraham cast Hagar and Ishmael out of the family. They went to the wilderness of Beersheba. (21:14)

Haggai
     A son of Gad. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,16)

Ham - There are two:
     1. The second son of Noah. He helped Noah build the ark. (chapter 6) His sons were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. (10:6)
     2. A city in the land of Canaan. It was lived in by a tribe called the Zuzims, until the war in Canaan. Then Chedorlaomer's army conquered the city. (14:7)

Hamam (also called Hemam)
     A son of Lotan. (36:22)

Hamathites
     A subdivision of the Canaanites. (10:18)

Hamor
     The king of a Hivite city.
     His sons sold Jacob a field for a hundred pieces of silver. (33:19-20)
     Hamor's son Shechem raped Dinah, Jacob's daughter. Jacob's sons (Dinah's brothers) were mad at Shechem. Hamor told them "Shechem loves this girl. Let's ally ourselves in marriage. You shall give us your daughters, and you can take ours."
     Jacob's sons answered "We can't give our sister to a man who isn't circumcised. It would be a disgrace. But if every one of your males is circumcised, we will agree to your deal." Hamor agreed.
     Hamor explained the deal to all the males in the city. The men agreed. They were circumcised.
     Two days later, when are the men were still sore from their circumcisions, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi (both of whom were Dinah's full brothers), attacked the city. They killed every male, including Hamor, and took Dinah. Then they plundered the city, and took all their flocks, cattle, possessions, women, and children, to avenge Dinah's dishonor. (chapter 34)

Hamul
     A son of Perez (also called Pharez). He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,12)

Hanoch - There are two:
     1. A son of Midian. (25:4)
     2. A son of Reuben. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-9)

Haran - There are two:
     1. A son of Terah, and the brother of Abram and Nahor. He was the father of Lot, Milcah, and Iscah. Haran died in the city of Ur while his family still lived there. (11:26-31)
     2. A city in the area of Paddan-Aram, in the land of Mesopotamia. (Haran was located in what would today be southeastern Turkey. Archeologists have actually found its ruins. The ruins of Haran are still there, but today the site is called Sultan Tepe.)
     Terah, Abram, Sarai, and Lot settled there after leaving the city of Ur. (11:31) While they lived there, Terah died. (11:32) Later, Jacob went there to escape from Esau. (28:10)

Havilah - There are four
     1. An area near the Garden of Eden, completely surrounded by the Pishon river (also called Pison river). The land is known for its gold, bdellium, and onyx. (2:11-12)
     2. A son of Cush. (10:7)
     3. A son of Joktan (10:29)
     4. An area near the border of Egypt. (25:18)

Hazarmaveth
     A son of Joktan. (10:26)

Hezazon Tamar
     A city in the land of Canaan. It was lived in by a tribe called the Amorites, until the war in Canaan. Then Chedorlaomer's army conquered the city. (14:7)

Hazo
     A son of Nahor (Abraham's brother) by his wife Milcah. (22:20-23)

Heber
     A son of Beriah. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,1)

Hebron
     A city. It was also called Kirjath Arba (or Kiriatharba) (23:2) and Arbah. (35:27)
     The city was located near the plain of Mamre in the land of Canaan. (13:18; 23:2,19; 35:27)
     Abraham built an altar to God there. (13:18) Sarah died there. (23:2) Later, Isaac died there. (35:27-29)

Hemam (also called Hamam)
     A son of Lotan. (36:22)

Hemdan
     A son of Dishon the Horite chief. (36:21,26)

Heth
     A son of Canaan. (10:15) He was the forefather of the Hittite tribe.

Hezron - There are two:
     1. A son of Reuben. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-9)
     2. A son of Perez (also called Pharez). He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,12)

Hiddekel (also called Tigris)
     One of the four rivers that came out of the river that flowed out of the Garden of Eden. It flowed toward the east of Assyria. (2:14)

Hirah
     A man who lived in the city of Adullam. He was a friend of Judah. Judah visited Adullam, and stayed at Hirah's house. At the house, Judah met at Canaanite woman named Shua, whom he married. (38:1-2)
     Years later, Hirah was involved in another story: He and Judah went to the town of Timnath (also called Timnah) to sheer their sheep. On the way, Judah saw his ex-daughter-in-law Tamar in disguise. He didn't know that she was his ex-daughter-in-law; he thought that she was a prostitute. He asked her to service him. As payment, he would give her an animal from his flock. He would send it to her. The "prostitute" asked for a pledge until he sent her the animal. The pledge would be Judah's seal and its cord, and his staff. Judah agreed, and they had sex.
     Later, Judah sent Hirah to the fork in the road to find the prostitute and give her the animal. Hirah went there, but couldn't find her. He asked around, but no luck. He returned to Judah, and told him what happened. Judah said "Let her keep the pledge. If we keep searching, word will get out that I picked up a prostitute, and we will get a bad name." (chapter 38)

Hittites
     A subdivision of the Canaanites. They were the descendants of Canaan's son Heth.
     Ephron was the name of a Hittite that sold Abraham the field of Machpelah. (chapter 23; 25:9; 49:29-30; 50:13)
     Esau married two Hittite women, Judith and Basemath. (26:34)

Hivites
     A subdivision of the Canaanites. (10:17)

Hobah
     A place near the city of Damascus. This is where Abram and his men chased Chedorlaomer's army to, and where they defeated them. (14:15)

Hori
     A son of Lotan. (36:22)

Horites
     A tribe who lived in the land of Canaan. They lived in the mountains of Seir, until they were conquered by Chedorlaomer in the war in Canaan. (14:5-6) But they remained in the area. (36:20-30)

Hul
     A child of Aram (10:23)

Huppim
     A son of Beriah. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,21)

Husham
     A king of Edom. He came from the land of Temani. (36:34-35)

Hushim
     A son of Dan. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,23)

Huz
     The firstborn son of Nahor (Abraham's brother) by his wife Milcah. (22:20-23)
