Ebal (also called Ebol)
     A son of Shobal. (36:23)

Eber - There are two:
     1. An alternate name for the Hebrew people. (10:21)
     2. A son of Salah. He lived 464 years. At age 34, he had a son named Peleg. Then he had a son named Joktan, and other sons and daughters. (10:24-25; 11:14-17)

Ebol (also called Ebal)
     A son of Shobal. (36:23)

Eden, Garden of
     The first residence of man. It was a garden of extreme fertility. It was located "in the east". (2:8) It had all kinds of trees in it. In the middle of the garden was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This was the tree Adam and Eve were forbidden to eat from. 
     A river watering the Garden flowed out of it. From there, the river separated into four rivers: Pishon (also called Pison), Gihon, Tigris, and Euphrates. (2:10-14) (By today's map, the Garden would be located somewhere around Turkey.)
     Adam and Eve lived there until they were expelled for eating fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They were expelled to the east side of Eden. (2:4-3:24)

Edar, Tower of (also called Eder)
     A tower mentioned in the journey of Jacob's family. (35:21)

Edom
     A country that Esau (Jacob's older brother) started. (36:8-9,43) It's located in the land of Seir. (32:3; 36:8-9)

Edomite
     A member of the country of Edom.

Egypt
     A country located along the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It is located southwest of the land of Canaan. It is bordered on the east by the Red Sea.
     During a time of famine in Cannaan, Abram and Sarai visited Egypt. (12:10-20)
     Sarah's maid Hagar (who was also Ishmael's mother) was an Egyptian.
     Joseph lived in Egypt after being sold by his brothers. (chapter 37)
     Towards the end of Genesis, Jacob and his entire family relocated to Egypt. (chapter 46)

Egypt, River of
     The western boundary of the land that God promised to Abram. (15:18)

Ehi
     A son of Benjamin. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,21)

Eidaah
     A son of Midian. (25:4)

Elah
     A chief of Edom. (36:40-43)

Elam - There are two:
     1. A child of Shem. (10:22)
     2. A city in the land of Canaan. It was ruled by Chedorlaomer in the battle in the valley of Siddim. Elam was on the winning side. (chapter 14)

Eldaah
     A son of Midian. (25:4)

Eliezer
    Abram's servant. He came from Damascus. Until Isaac was born, Eliezer was Abram's prospective heir. (15:1-4)

Eliphaz
     The oldest son of Esau by his wife Adah. (36:2-4,15) He and his brothers were leaders in the country of Edom. (36:16)
     Eliphaz was the father of Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. (36:11,15) And his concubine Timna bore him Amalek. (36:12)

Elishah
     A son of Javan. (10:4)

Ellasar
     A city in the land of Canaan. It was one of the cities that joined Chedorlaomer in the battle in the valley of Siddim. Ellasar was on the winning side. (chapter 14)

Elon - There are two:
     1. A Hittite. He was one of Esau's father-in-laws. His daughter was one of Esau's three wives. (26:34; 36:2) (There is a discrepancy as to the name of Elon's daughter, who married Esau. In26:34, she is named Basemath, but in 36:2, she is named Adah.)
     2.A son of Zebulun. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,14)

Elparan
     A place near the mountains of Seir. It was the furthest point to be reached by the invasion of Chedorlaomer and his armies. (14:6)

Emin
     A tribe who lived in the land of Canaan. They lived in the city of Shaveth Kiriathaim, until the city was conquered by Chedorlaomer in the war in Canaan. (14:5)

En Misphat (also called Enmishpat)
     An alternate name for a place called Kadesh. (14:7) (Kadesh is a place near Beer Lahoi Roi (also called Lahoi-roi). (16:14))

Enoch - There are three:
     1. The oldest son of Cain. He was the father of Irad. (4:17-18)
     2. A city built by Cain. It was named after Cain's son. (4:17)
     3. The son of Jared. He lived 365 years. At age 65, he had a son named Methuselah. Then he had other sons and daughters. (5:18-24)

Enos (also called Enosh)
     A son of Seth. When he was 90, he had a son named Cainan (also called Kenan, not to be confused with Canaan, the son of Ham). He had other sons and daughters. He lived to be 905. (5:6-11)

Ephah
     A son of Midian (not to be confused with Epher, another son of Midian). (25:4)

Ephraim
     The second son of Joseph and Asenath. (41:50-52) Before Jacob died, he was introduced to Joseph's two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. When Jacob blessed them, he deliberately gave preference to the younger son, Ephraim. Joseph didn't like this. He asked Jacob to give preference to Manasseh because Manasseh was the older son. But Jacob refused. He said "Manasseh will become great, but Ephraim will become greater than he." (chapter 48)

Ephrath (also called Bethlehem)
     A city in the land of Canaan. When Jacob and his family left Bethel, they journeyed to Ephrath. En route, Rachel gave birth to Jacob's youngest son, Benjamin. Rachel died in childbirth, and was buried on the way. (35:16-20)

Ephron
     A Hittite. The son of Zohar. He owned a piece of land called Machpelah, which was located east of Mamre. There was a cave on the land. Abraham went to Ephron, and bought Machpelah from him. Abraham used it as a burial place for himself and his family. (23:7-17)

Er (The name comes from the Hebrew word "er", which means "alert" in English.)
     The oldest son of Judah by his Canaanite wife Bathshua. Er had a wife named Tamar. Er was wicked, so God had Er put to death. (38:3-6) Er died in the land of Canaan. (46:12)

Erech
     A city in Nimrod's kingdom. It was located in the land of Shinar.(The land of Shinar was located north of the Persian Gulf, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in what would today be Iraq, or northeastern Syria. It was later called Chaldea, and later Babylon.) (10:9-10)

Eri (The name comes from the Hebrew word "er", which means "alert" in English.)
     A son of Gad. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,16)

Esek
     One of the wells dug by Isaac's herdsmen when Isaac and Rebekah stayed in Gerar. (26:20)

Eshban
     A son of Dishon (36:26)

Eshcol
     One of three Amorite chiefs who helped Abram's army defeat Chedorlaomer and rescue Lot. (The other two were Eshcol's brothers, Aner and Mamre.) After their victory, Abraham refused to take any of the spoil, but let the three chiefs have their share. (chapter 14)

Euphrates
     One of the four rivers that came out of the river that flowed out of the Garden of Eden. (2:14)
     When God promised Abram that his descendants would have their own land, the Euphrates was the eastern limit of the land. (15:18) (Today, the Euphrates river flows through the countries of Turkey, Syria, and Iraq.)

Eve
     The first woman. The wife of Adam. The mother of Cain, Abel, Seth, and other sons and daughters.
     She was created from the rib of Adam, and was created to be a companion for him in the Garden of Eden. She was not named "Eve" at first. She was at first named "woman". (2:18-23) 
     Later, the serpent persuaded the woman to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree. Then the woman persuaded Adam to eat the fruit as well. (3:1-7) For this, she was punished with the pains of childbirth and subjugation to her husband. (3:8-19) At this time, Adam gave the woman a new name: Eve. (3:20) Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden.
     After the expulsion, Eve is mentioned only in connection with the birth of her children. First she bore two sons: Cain and Abel. (4:1-2) Later she bore a third son, Seth. (4:25) After this, Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters, but no more names are given. (5:4)

Ezban
     A son of Gad. He was one of Jacob's family that moved to Egypt. (46:5-8,16)

Ezer
     A son of Seir the Horite. He was a Horite. (36:21,30) He was the father of Bilhan, Zavan, and Akan. (31:27)
